Magazine evalutation

 1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products?

Before I began to make my magazine cover I studied many different styles of pop magazine cover and tried to stick to the forms and convention that apply in a stereotypical pop magazine, I decided to use one of the pop magazines I studied as an inspiration for my cover, in this particular magazine I looked at it was very colorful and had many different objects pictures and offers on the front page. in most magazine covers I looked at it was the same in all cases, so I used one big eye-catching main picture and got ma classmates to dress up in colorful clothes to create a playful attitude as my magazine reaches out to young teens. the magazine I looked at also had clothing ideas and offers in side so I advertised this separately on the front page. I had to give some ideas of the types of things in my magazine so I put more of my class mates on next to their picture, this is the same in the magazines that is looked at they had one main pictures and quite a lot of smaller ones with their own story, I tried to use a similar layout and followed the same colour scheme throughout my magazine cover.

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In my magazine cover I tried to represent a typical pop star kind of social group. So this meant it had to represent the artists and the typical life of a pop star in a certain way. I feel that I represented it best through the use of my colour scheme and my main picture. In my main picture I had my models wear very colourful types of clothes and paint their face to show a kind of 'mess about attitude' to the shoot, I did this because in pop social groups the songs and the vibe of the artists are usually very fun and very high energy so I tried to represent that in the main picture of my magazine. Also the name of my magazine is pop life because with the typical magazine it has the type of magazine genre in the title of the magazine which makes it easier to understand and can be seen as very eye-catching. As my magazine is reaching out to mainly teenage girls I decided to use a purple colour scheme with very vibrant clashing colours for the writing. I have tried to represent a typical pop social group through the way I represent my magazine, making it colourful, eye-catching and making the main pictures stand out massively.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

If this magazine became successful enough then the magazine may become distributed by companies such as Egmont. This company would build my magazine and help it to gain popularity so more people would be interested in buying it. because the company is so big they would have a lot of experience in this type of distribution, therefore they would have a better idea of what they are doing with the magazine. I chose Egmont magazines because they produce 20 monthly magazines meaning it wouldn't be complicated to keep the magazine up to date, also Egmont base their choice of magazine around younger audiences, for example they run magazines such as 'We Love Pop' , Disney magazines and also they run 'Go Girl'. They reach large audiences of people so I believe it would be in the magazines best intention to publish it using Egmont. This company can also have contacts to some of the most popular music and kids shows.

4) Who would be the audience for you media product?

my media product would probably be aimed at young teens aimed at around 10 - 14 years old, I chose this age because this is the kind of age you begin listening to music seriously and possibly idolizing some of the artists you listen to. I chose this age because they seem like the most likely age to start reading this type of magazine to keep up with all that is going on in this kind of social bubble. these are usually the age group that are interested in asking someone to buying the magazine for the free girts, posters and advertisements, my target audience is mainly for girls, not because of the contents in the magazine but because of the colour scheme and pictures mainly, i have made the colour scheme quite girly not on purpose but because i used the colour pallet of my main picture.

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

i think i have attracted my audience from the use of the high colour and playful images, i believe that younger audiences would be interested in what is in my magazine from what i have shown on the front cover, yes my front page is very full of things but that is because in a pop magazine there are a lot of things that would catch the eye of younger viewers. i would say it is obvious for the viewers which type of magazine i have created, so if they walk in to look for a specific type of magazine i would say mine is bold and high colour enough to attract them towards my magazine. I have also attracted my audience with the my use of head lines, i have used the sort of headlines that people would want to read about fro example the 'UK'S top 40 songs revealed in here" this could attract people that regularly listen to music and are into the top charts because it will make them want to find out the downloads chart. the other post such as the posts about peoples private lives would interest certain people into reading my magazine.

6) what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

This task has helped me to develop my level of knowledge in the ICT skills needed for this project. i no understand the use of programmes such as Photoshop and Scribus, i have developed my skills in things such as editing and enhancing images which makes my magazine a lot better.

Movie Posters

Hot Fuzz

The main colours in this picture are black and  blue, this is because the film is based around, violence and the police. the film cover is quite a dark picture considering the film is mainly a comedy and pretty much takes the mic out of petty crimes and police officers.
The items used in the poster are police equipment, the main actors are featured in the poster and they are armed with things like guns and batons. they are wearing typical police gear and sunglasses to bring out the comic side to the film.

The main figures in the poster are the people as they are the main point to the film. but in the background you can ever so slightly see the village that the 2 police officers are 'protecting' but it is burnt and smokey due to the way they took down the string of killers.

I think the intended audience is portably late tees and older up to about late 30's early 40's, this is because of hoe the film looks to be presented, it looks violent it looks and at the top of the poster it says, 'big cops, small town, moderate viloence'. the look of this poster suggests to me it is not something to be shown to small eyes.

On the poster the actor used to sell the film to the audience is simon peg and nick frost , these actors are famous for acting together, they are known for doing comedy films together, so if they're trying to sell a comedy film people will defiantly know what it is like if they look at this cover. also on the cover it says 'from the makers of shaun of the dead' this hows it will be the same type of film as that one and as that was an extremely popular film, it will make more people want to watch this film.

The tag one is not funny or catchy it doesn't really add anything to the film at all.
the poster is slightly effective although it does help sell the film as much, when you watch the film  the poster doesn't give the films full impacts away, you can't tell the film is comedy, it looks like a more serious film, the only reason you would be able to tell it had a comedy side is because of shaun of the dead subtitle.

This poster would not give me any interest in seeing the film if you look at it in its full extent, as in analyse the characters, the subtitle and the background it may persuade you, but just looking at the poster gives me no interest in see in it.

Shaun of the dead

the main colours used in this picture are red, black and white. other faded colours are used to change the appearance of the zombies to make they look more pale, dirty and washed out. The red on the subway train symbolises the blood that is shed from the zombies and from the people they have turned to zombies, it is quite a dark poster because of the black that is also used and washes out the background.the white writing is just to make the name of the film stand out.

the only its,s that are really used i this poster are a bunch of flowers and a subway train, this is due to the fact that the main character is trying to win back his girlfriend which is what the flowers symbolise and the subway train symbolises him being trapped in a confined space with all of the zombies in the film. Also in the title of the film on the poster, as the middle triangle from A is replaced with a zombies hand, if the title was only shown then this would again give some idea of what the film is about.

the main background of the poster is the heads of the actors sticking pushed up against the window of the tram, this has been included to give up some idea of what the film is about because obviously looking at this you can see that the film is about people who are trying to escape an apocalypse and this is shown throughout the main background of the poster.

i would say the intended audiences for the poster is probably early teens to late 20's, i would say this because it looks slightly childish and it is clear that the film will be comedic, even though it is clear that the film is based around taking the mic out of 'Dawn Of The Dead', it is  more childish and comedic poster than the poster for 'Dawn Of The Dead, also the tagline of the film is quite comedic also because obviously in the picture you can see they care surrounded by zombies so as the tagline says 'EVER FELT LIKE YOU WERE SURROUNDED BY ZOMBIES?' then you know that the film will be a horror comedy.

The unique selling point of this would probably Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, but from this poster you can barely see that Simon Pegg is in the film because his face is drowned out by the rest of the people in this picture, although his face is a more vibrant colour and the light is clearly shined more on him i don't believe that his is the eye catching part of the poster, as for nick frost he is mentioned in the bottom writing but is nowhere to be seen in the poster therefore unless you read the writing at the bottom it is not clear that Nick Frost s even in the film.

The attention of the audience will be gained from probably the title of the film, i would say it is the most eye-catching part of the poster, as it is big, bold and it is white. This poster does not give the full effect of the film so it is not clear that the film is comedic unless you read the writing.

The tagline is the way that you can tell this film is a comedy and doesn't take itself to seriously, this tagline is a joke about the film in general, i think it is funny and it will be on of the things that will make people want to watch the film.

But unless you read the writing you cannot tell this film is a jokey tim people may think it is a serious kind of horror and watch the start of the film and may be disappointed when they find out what kind of film it is.

I do think this poster is effective even though you cannot see the full extent of the film, i think it is creative and i also think if his poster was the be seen the film would become a Huge hit, the only thing i would say is that it gives no idea as to what genre the film is, this could be made more clear for people to understand the humour in the film.

The Worlds End;

The main colours used in this picture of black blue and yellow, this is because at the end of the film their is a big explosion which is what the little yellow flame ball in the background, the reason this is used as the poster picture is because the worlds end sign is the sign for the pub they go to at the end and the 2 actors in the middle are the main actors, the reason for the black is again because it is quite a dark type of film.

the only item used in this poster is the sign from the worlds end pub, this poster doesn't really give yo any idea of what the film is about at all unless you watch the film, for all people know this film could be about the end of the world. i don't personally thing enough props were used her to explain more of the film.

the main figures in the poster are simon pegg and nick frost, again this is a problem because their are 3 other main actors in the film, they are not used here probably because they are not as recognisable as simon and nick, you can tell this film would be a jokey kind of film because the only times these actors work together is when the film is not taken to seriously, otherwise it is unclear on what type of film it is and what it is about.

my cover - first trial and final look.

this is my first trial idea for my front page, i used my own pictures of my class mates and took the idea of the layout from other magazines.

we decided the fonts were hard to read and to dark for the type of magazine so i made them into a thinner font and changed the colours to the colour themes on the magazine.

also the name of the band does need to be the most bold part of the page but it was again boring and dark so i decided to make the name of the band lighter thinner and bigger, also replaced it on the page.

this shows the changes i have made to the title, i used the text tool and i made the same title in the dame way twice but just changed the colour of one, this gives the effect of a shadow. and highlights the band name.

this shows my final magazine cover, as you can see i have changed the colour and the style of text to highlight it more and match it more the the theme of the magazine.

i have changed the band name to highlight what the main story of the magazine will be.

Main picuture edits

i cropped out that black background first because i decided that it didn't look right with the kind of magazine i was making, to do this i used the magnetic lasso tool, i then ripped the picture round and made it the correct size for the page, and i also lightened the colour of the image and made the paint brighter, with the original picture it looked to dark and dull for the type of magazine, i did this using the quick edit tool, upping the straiten and lowering the brightness.

As seen below;

Magazine Backgorund ideas

at first i wasn't going to have a background but decided it looked to plain. i couldn't have a background that is to bright because it would be over powering so i went for a more suttle and faded colour.
i first it hough maybe a light pale blue would be the right colour but it faded to much into the main picture of the magazine and it didn't look right as it over powered the magazine.

i then decided to maybe use a warm pink but again it clashed with the main picture, the skin tines on the 3 main peoples face were a similar colour to this when it was properly edited.

i then decided to go with a light purple, it would match the theme of the magazine and the colour tones i intended to put in.

My magazine title, start to finish

This is how my magazine title started out, i had not edited it at this point i had only written the title in changed the font and the size.

i then changed the colour of my magazine to try and suit the background i had chosen i had gone over many options for example this blue one which gave the idea for a florescent and high colour background.
i used the paint fill in tool to colour the background of the letters.
i then decided because of having a faded purple background that maybe a light pink colour would firstly suit the theme and also suit the colours on my background, this doesn't look enough though, it looks unprofessional and childish so i decided to add more.

i decided that adding a shadow and a bevel to the writing would make it more 3D and would make it stand out more, this is better because it makes it one of the most eye catching thing on the page.

the i came up with the style and the formation of the title, put all the finishing touches to the design and come up with this.
